Question

Is it possible to specify default text for an element?

Hi there,

I'm currently working a new EDD and have run into something that hasn't cropped up for me before. Is it possible to specify the default text contained in an element?

I can't find anything, and autoinsertions only seems to allow adding element nodes, not <TEXT>.

For example, I'd like to have an IntroductionTitle element which when inserted into the document, defaults to the phrase "Introduction", but can be changed just by typing a new title in.

If anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated.

Hi...

I'm not aware of any way to do that using default FrameMaker techniques. Other than setting up the associated paragraph tag with a prefix or suffix (which wouldn't be easily changed), I don't think it's possible.

I do offer a plugin called Structure Snippets that can provide this type of functionality ..

You might download the 30-day trial and give it a whirl.

Hi Rinkwraith,

This could be done with a short ExtendScript.

Hmm. That could be an option too - cheers Russ.

I've scripted everything else at one time or another so maybe I can deal with Framemaker. :-)
