Question

Is there any way to "Print book" with mixed version FM files?

Am fairly new to Framemaker and we all just upgraded to TCS and FM 9 from FM 7.2. After upgrade, when I went to "print book" and generate the postscript file, I found I had to re-save each FM file in the book to the current version before it would work.  Plus, on each re-save, I had that extra prompt to tell it to continue each time (and then, of course, re-save the file).  Is there any setting in FM 9 that will either create the .ps file without updating each .fm file to FM 9 first?  Failing that, is there some way to do a mass update to FM 9?  Failing THAT, is there a setting to temporarily eliminate that additional prompt on opening the older files?

Before you follow Arnis' instructions on how to convert the files from the version 7 format to version 9, make an archive / backup copy of the complete version 7 file set.

Yes, this works.  And, yes, on "open" of each file, you still have to click to continue for each file - but it does go so much faster.  Thanks

From the Book file, if you hold the Shift key down when selecting the File menu, you should see options to Open All, Save All, etc, files in a book. Open all files i nthe book prior to printing. To update to v.9 versions, this should be a one-shot deal to answer the prompts when you Open All and Save All.

This is what I do, but the dialog appears for each file, not once for all files. I just position my pointer over the Yes in the first box, click it, and do not move the mouse. Just have to click, click, click,... until all the files are open. Does not take long unless one of the files can't find a referenced graphic.
