isoconverter.dll needed in FM v16/2020

Running new install of FMv16 on Win 10 (Just now upgrading from FMv12).

Upon File>Open, when .fm doc has .cgm (Import by Reference), we get error about not being able to initialize isoconverter.dll (see screenie below).

The dll is not included in the FMv16 installation but the call for it IS in maker.ini - but is commented out.

We have hundreds of .cgm's we need to use (or, maybe convert to . . . . say . . . . pdf), but if we can still use .cgm's that would be preferrable.

Any help, please?

Regards,

Dave

You will also have to look out for bmp files. New versions of FrameMaker does not support bmp with alpha channels. Meaning that only 24 bit bmp files with no alpa channels will work. Bmp was the standard file format for screendumps a few years ago.

And I can import a CGM into Frame 16 with no issues. How did you import it? Did you use File > Import > Image? That's a fairly new feature and it's strictly for importing graphics files. I have no idea how FM would react if you tried to import using File > Import > File. I mean, I'd think it should work but I make no guarantees.

Beyond that, all I can think is that the installation was done correctly. Probably if you uninstall FM16 and delete all the directories (under Program Files\Adobe\Framemaker 2020 and under <users>\Appdata\Roaming\Adobe\Framemaker 2020, then reinstall, it will work.

The .fm files are FMv12, being opened in v16.  Authors would have used File>Import>File in v12. Structure then shows the <Image> Element.

FMv16 Installation was automated, right off the Adobe Site, so hopefully that went correctly.

These CGM files are known to be old. And, a long time ago, there was a known issue with CGMv4  vs.  CGMv9. I have no idea what was done about that at the time, but these files work in FMv12, with its isoconverter.dll.

[btw, as I write this, we just discovered, after our first group installed v16 last week or so, v17 is now out. So, for all I know, this entire thread is moot!] Anyway, Current status is, upon File>Open in v16, when Authors run into issues with CGM art, they will generate a list of imported graphics and have Illustrators convert to PDF.

    Thanks for your attention, Everyone!

If it's any help, isoconverter.dll isn't on my personal machine, which has FM15 (2019) installed on it. So we know that as of at least one release back, FM doesn't install it.
