Landscape and portrait in same book

Are you adding text frames to your master pages? Otherwise you shouldn't be getting this message. You need to adjust the existing text frame.

The body text frames, i.e. those were you place your content on Body pages, belong to a flow. FM supports multiple flows, i.e. independent text frames can hold different content. Usually, you only use a single flow document, "A" by default. If you add a text frame to your Master page, FM asks if you want this as a background or flow frame. Background frames cannot have content inserted in them on Body pages. These are typcally used for headers and footers.

You should be able to add Landscape pages to any document with a Portrait set-up by rotating the added Master page. See Scriptorium's training wiki for details on how to add a Landscape Right pge:

Hmmm... I searched Google last night and found the link and went to it with no problem, to verify that it worked and that it was appropriate. But, as you note, today, the link fails. So, briefly, here's the issue and the fix, unless I'm misremembering something:

* The issue is that editing a rotated FrameMaker page with a text frame on it sometimes causes frustration, especially for tables in the text frame. This is because FrameMaker seems to remember the page's former unrotated orientation, and the frame's current rotated orientation.

* The fix is to rotate the page and unrotate the text frame. You can create a new master page this way and apply it to body pages, or change an existing master page.

I don't have FrameMaker available now, but I think the steps are:

* Create a new master page using an existing master-page layout.

* Rotate the page whichever direction you want.

* Select the main text frame and note its dimensions in the Graphics > Object Properties dialog box. Exit the dialog box.

* Rotate the selected text frame back to the original orientation. The header and footer text frame positions and other page objects will not change, for the moment.

* Use Graphics > Object Properties to exchange the height and width of the selected frame, to return it to its former orientation. Double click inside it to assure that the text cursor blinks in the upper-left corner (or whichever corner you want the text to originate from.)

* Reposition the header and footer text frames and other background page objects as necessary.

* To apply multiple-column properties to the master-page text frames, as Arnis notes, set them via Object Properties.

Text in the main text flow will flow through from portrait to landscape pages and back to portrait, and so on. Unlike rotated text frames on rotated pages, tables and anchored frames on pages created with the above method will be editable; you can't edit tables and anchored frames on the "regular" rotated pages unless you unrotate the pages.
