last update of FrameMaker

Hello,

About the last update of FrameMaker, the version number seems to be 18.00206 : https://helpx.adobe.com/framemaker/kb/fixed-issues.html

But if I update my FrameMaker version, I am now with version 17.09 (instead of 18.00206). Why ?

And if I try to download manually Framemaker, I am always with version 17 : https://www.adobe.com/go/fm-vip-download

Yes, FrameMaker version 18 has been released.

My understanding is that the branding is now in line with Adobe CC applications and is simply FrameMaker version 18, not FrameMaker 2026 (version 18).

I’m happy to see that, since the last version with perpetual licensing was FrameMaker 2019, or (I believe) version 15. With numerous updates on average each year, branding with the year of first release didn’t track with the state of the application’s development.

But who knows...we’ll see how it goes.

I’m just excited that with the release, I can use the v18 app in my upcoming webinars!

As FM version 18 is a major version, do you plan to release a new version of your FM books (paper books) ?

Indeed, and thank you for asking!

Fortunately, the UI for both structured and unstructured FrameMaker has changed little, and I'm in the process of updating my reference book (Fm - Working with Content) and the structured workbooks (Authoring Structured Content and EDD Development).

Possible guess:

If it’s a major new release, the ‘magic number’ string in the first few bytes of any new/revised .fm file would be expected to change from:
<MakerFile 17.0>
to a higher number.

When opened in an older version of FM, it would throw an error, requiring it to be either re-saved as .mif in the newer FM, or opened via ‘heroic open’ attempt in the older (if that hack still works in recent FMs).

Yesterday I talked to an Adobe representative. He checked the case and sent this today:

FrameMaker 2026 is expected to be released in the coming days. The download link has not yet been updated on the official download page, which is why you are still receiving FrameMaker 2022 when attempting to download the latest version.

Therefore we just have to wait a little bit.
