Question

List of table shows emphasis character style from source chapter. How to use default character style

I have a tricky problem with automatically generated 'List of tables' document. I have table titles and a paragraph style for them. I generate a LOT where all table titles are listed with a page number. I have defined a paragraph style for a LOT lines/paragraphs having all fonts in plain black. Everything works, almost...

In source files, few table titles have emphasis character style to highlight part of the text in bold red. When I manually apply default character style on LOT paragraph, it changes fonts to plain black. But, the bold red fonts seems to re-appear to my LOT list in every book update, copied from source file. I have tried the definition <Default ¶ Font> in front of the LOT paragrah style in a reference page without success.

Somehow this original bold red lurks into my LOT although the LOT charracter style (plain black) is set in the Paragraph Designer. I have not found way to prevent this happening. What I have missed, any ideas?

I think we're all on the same page with our solutions...I'd try clicking outside the text frame, going to the Character Designer, then redefining the Emphasis setting for Angle to Regular.

That will leave fonts, size, etc. alone, and just remove the Italic (or Oblique) property

    Hi, @terhok ,

as @Bob_Niland  wrote, re-defining the character format Emphasis in your LOT should do the trick.

Change color to black and all the other settings as needed.

Deleting the character style works most of the time, but not as a 100% solution (my experience).

    Regards

    Stephan

    Quick Fix:
In the Character Catalog of the LOT.fm file,
    delete Character Format Emphasis,
    or
re-define it to have As-Is for all properties. [Update Style]

I redefined the character style in LOT file so visually it is ok now. But, when the FM book gets updated the original bold red character style re-appears in LOT. Somehow book updating triggers importing character style from original file to the LOT file.

Check your LOT reference page for an Emphasis
