Microsoft word to FrameMaker - equation - sharing document with team

Hello,

Can anyone help me please?

I create my technical document in FrameMaker, and the team gives me their documents in Microsoft word.  The word document as text and equations and once brought into FrameMaker, the equations are not displayed nicely in order to use the FrameMaker Equation palette.  Can you let me know how can the Microsoft word document come through into FrameMaker with not a lot of errors, as my team does not like to reproof, once I format the word document presentably in FrameMaker?

How the above makes sense.  Thank you.

In my experience, Word equations don't map to editable equations in FrameMaker. Also, in my experience, they don't appear in the Word media folder as images.

So... I may rebuild a simple equation in FrameMaker, but usually I end up exporting the Word pages that contain equations to PDFs, and then crop each individual equation and extract it as an individual PDF.  I then import the PDF equations into FrameMaker as inline images.

All the visible equations below—alone on the numbered paragraphs and the two I left visible that are embedded in the paragraph—are linked PDFs that I created using the above technique and shrinkwrapped (Esc m p). It's not fast but it works.

I can't help you with the equations, but one of my FrameMaker templates is called the TechWriters template. It comes with the exact same paragraph style names as MS Word, making it easy to set up roundtripping using an STS files. In the STS file you can map the Word styles up against the TechWriter templates  FrameMaker styles. You can download it here. It is free:

Are the equations in an image format in Word? If so, you can use the .docx unzip trick to extract them and import them into your FM doc. Otherwise I suspect you'll have to recast them in FM's equation editor (maybe MathMML-something? don't work with any equations in my FM docs).
