Question

MiniTOC Order

I need help with the ordering of paragraph styles in my document’s mini table of contents.

I am creating a miniTOC with 2 paragraph styles. On my body pages, I have 2 text flows:

  • A - which houses the first of my 2 relevant paragraph styles, which serves as a subsection for this .fm file.
  • B - which houses the second relevant paragraph style, which serves as the title for the entries in this document, and the relevant information that follows each entry.

My miniTOC is putting the paragraph styles from flow B above flow A, which is the opposite of how I want it. The text boxes for Flow A are placed before the text boxes for Flow B, so I assumed that info from Flow A would be prioritzed.

How can I reverse this? Thanks!

Just to give an update… I rebuilt my master pages that would contain both flows, and I am getting my desired result on my miniTOC for the first instance of using the rebuilt master page. However, when I use the same master page a second time, I am experiencing the same error in order on my miniTOC as before.

Not sure why the miniTOC is behaving differently for the same master page.

    Hi,

I had not tested this, but often FrameMaker takes the flow first which was created first. Could you, just for a test, create a new text flow and insert some headings? Where do they come?

Does FrameMaker list all headings of flow A until the end of one flow? And then come the headings of the other flow? Or does FrameMaker always lists the headings of a certain page?

    Best regards, Winfried

I believe you are correct (first created flow is prioritized). I created a new text flow for testing, and it was inserted below my other 2 headings in my miniTOC. This was true even when I moved it to the very top of my page.

My document is set up so that Flow B is on every page, but flow A is not. Pages that do not have a Flow A have a different master page that uses Running H/F variables and background text boxes to carry my subsection headings across multiple pages.

    This is what I want:

    Subsection 1

    Entry 1

    Entry 2

    Entry 3…

This is what I am getting:

    Entry 1

    Subsection 1

    Entry 2

    Entry 3..
