Question

Miramo and FrameMaker 6.0 issues

So this is probably a longshot, but wanted to put this out there just in case anybody had an idea:

Running Miramo 5.4, FrameMaker 6.0 and appendPDF 3.4 on a windows 2000 box and have been creating output PDF files successfully since 2000 up until a few weeks ago.  My company has expressed interest to upgrade to all current version of software on a 2012 windows server, but in the meantime we are having to restart the 2000 box every other day or so because the jobs sporatically get hung up and seem to open many instances of FrameMaker and never close out.  I have not changed anything as far as code goes.  The server team seems to think it maybe an antivirus scan that is the culprit, but all paths having anything to do with the Miramo, FrameMaker, AppendPDF, and my output folders have been excluded from the virus scan.

Again, probably a longshot, but has anybody experienced anything like this?

Thanks,

Ana

    Hi Ana,

    I have clients running the Miramo 5.4 & FM6 combination on a Server 2003 configuration with Vipre anti-virus fully scanning and they don't have these problems.

    Are you logging the Miramo session to see if there are any error/warning messages? (i.e. add a " >> %log_dir%" to the end of your miramo command line(s) in the .CF files, where the log_dir system variable is defined in your mqm_env.dat file. You might have to explicitly define the Log_dir variable in the command files, as I don't know how Sheila set up your entire processing environment.)

    Has your IT group also excluded the system TEMP area from anti-virus scanning? FM makes heavy use of that area for file paging.

    This is my CF file:

    BID_NAME= X1063061.if

    MQM_USER_OUTPUT_DIR=AMA/07

    mmpp %MACRO_DIR%/fix_breaks.mmp %DATA_DIR%/%BID_NAME%.if

    mmpp -m %MACRO_DIR%/tx.mmp %DATA_DIR%/%BID_NAME%_fixed.if > %DATA_DIR%/data_out.mm

    miramo -Pfirstfirst -Opdf %OUT_DIR%/AMA_lib/%BID_NAME%.pdf -config pdf_config.txt -multi -Bfile %DATA_DIR%/temp.book %DATA_DIR%/data_out.mm

    mqm_wait_for_file AMA_lib/ X1063061.if.pdf

    appendpro -p -b -l %LOG_DIR%/appendpro.log %DATA_DIR%/append_list.dat

    And this is an excerpt from the log file:

    05-12-2014 07:11:33 AM - JOB STARTED Command File=711180X1063061.CF Instruction File=X1063061.if

    05-12-2014 07:11:39 AM -  mmpp %MACRO_DIR%/fix_breaks.mmp %DATA_DIR%/%BID_NAME%.if

    05-12-2014 07:11:43 AM -  mmpp -m %MACRO_DIR%/tx.mmp %DATA_DIR%/%BID_NAME%_fixed.if > %DATA_DIR%/data_out.mm

    05-12-2014 07:11:49 AM -  miramo -Pfirstfirst -Opdf %OUT_DIR%/AMA_lib/%BID_NAME%.pdf -config pdf_config.txt -multi -Bfile %DATA_DIR%/temp.book %DATA_DIR%/data_out.mm

    05-12-2014 08:23:50 AM -  miramo returned error code 1.

    05-12-2014 08:23:50 AM - END OF JOB

    I haven’t had problems like this in the 12 years that we’ve been running with the older software versions until May 2014.  We’ve had the following excluded from the virus scan, not really knowing that this is the issue (just kinda guessing at anything right now):

    C:\Program Files\miramo

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker6.0

    C:\Program Files\mqm

    I will try to poke around the server and find a TEMP folder….I don’t have full administrative rights….do you by chance know what else I could do to provide a more meaning error message?  The excerpt of the log file from above just shows the job  terminating after a little over an hour, when the job should take a couple of minutes to complete.  All the jobs submitted after, will do the same thing.  Once the server is restarted, then processing goes as normal again for a few days and then another restart is needed…..

    Thank you for anything you may be able to help with!

    Hi Ana,

    Let's take this off-line as it's more specific to Miramo than to FrameMaker in general. I'll contact you directly.

    FYI, from your current log file, the miramo exit code of "1" means that there was a syntax error of some kind that occurred during processing. This could leave FM in a hung state as you've been experiencing.

    Also, when you reply to Forum messages by email, be careful of including an automatic signature as these are public forums and spammers can harvest email and phone numbers.
