Missing Fonts That Are Not Missing

Why does FrameMaker 11 claim that it cannot open a file due to missing fonts when in fact no fonts are missing? I have repaired this problem with numerous files, replacing the missing fonts, but Frame is proving recalcitrant with one file in particular.

So which font does FM find missing and how did you go about replacing it? Do you always have the AdobePDF printer instance set as your default for FM sessions or do you change your printer around often?

In other files, the missing font has been Courier, for which I substitute Courier New using the Replace Font tab.

But in this case, I made a mistake in describing the problem: FrameMaker does not say the font is missing, it says the font is "unavailable." The Font Pod doesn't display or otherwise discuss the "availability" of fonts. As you might imagine, the problematic file, being part of a book, contains exactly the same fonts as the other files, no more and no fewer (Calibri, Calibri Light, Courier New, and Symbol, not to mention "3 of 9 Barcode"). It makes no difference what is set as the printer, be it Adobe PDF or our HP hardware. In any case, I would never print a book using the Print command because FrameMaker 11 promptly crashes. The problem arises when I try to update my books: Frame announces that it cannot update because it cannot open this file due to unavailability of fonts. It does not tell me which fonts it considers unavailable.

You can do a list of references and include font. This will give you a LOR document with all the fonts in the document. Check it and see if you see any that should not be in there. I had to do this with a few files myself. If you see a font that shouldn't be there, ctrl alt click on it in the LOR document and it will take you to the page of your document that it is on. You can then change it.

Special>List of References>click on yes and the doc will generate the list from there.

Hope this helps. I found this out on the forum here a few weeks ago.
