Newbie question about inserting hyperlinks

Hello:

I'm having some problems figuring out how to insert a hyperlink in my document. I would like to insert a link in my document that, when clicked, opens up a new Web browser at the URL I specified. I read the online Help and thought I had inserted the correct marker text but I'm not getting the results I wanted.

I inserted the hypertext marker "Message URL" and added the URL address. I get a link but nothing happens when I click it. What have I missed or done incorrectly? Is it even possible to do that?

TIA,

Kimberly

PS: I'm using v8.0P277 on Windows XP. The document will be available to customers as a PDF (that I create using Print to PDF).

Make sure you have a complete web address, starting with http:// (or https://, ftp://, mailto:)

Also, message should be all lower-case.

Thanks for the suggestions! I double-checked the syntax I had used (all lowercase letters) and tried to test it within FM.

Still no luck. From the PDF, when I click the link I receive an error message stating "The document is trying to connect to <the proper URL>. If you trust the site, choose Allow. If you do not trust the site, choose Block."

Since it's the site that I selected, I choose "Allow" but nothing else happens. I was hoping to actually open up a new Web page at the URL I'd specified.

Is that possible? What should I have entered in the Marker text box instead?

    TIA,

    -Kimberly

    Kimberly,

Are you clicking on your link in FrameMaker or have you saved the

document as PDF and clicking on the link there? To activate a link within

FrameMaker (whether created with a user-entered hypertext marker, a

cross-reference, or a generated list), instead of simple clicking, use

Ctrl-Alt-click. Alternatively, you can lock the document by saving it as

View-Only or using the 4-key sequence Esc, F, l, k (the second letter is a

lowercase 'L'). Use the same sequence to unlock the document. In a locked

document, you can traverse a link by clicking on it. You cannot edit a

    locked document.
