Numbering

I've marked my core chapters of a manual to be numbered according to order using chapnum. preceding documents such as preface and title page use the same format (title) but without numbering for page or title. However when creating a Toc framemaker 9 decides to add numbering for both page and chapter anyway. How do i solve this without constantly deleting the numbering in the TOC

Thank you

    Dear Pieter,

Your solution - to create a new format that is different only that it does not include the chapter number - is a good one. It is the way that I have approached the issue. Then, the numbering and TOC can be generated automatically every time without manual intervention. To me, then, the investment in creating a new paragraph definition (without the chapter number) was a good one because it saved so much time later.

    Good luck.

You have to edit the definitions on the TOC Reference page to remove the <$pagenum> and <$chapnum> building blocks from the paratags that you don't want to see these on. Don't forget to re-generate the book after you've made the edits.

Thanks. The only problem is that the chapters that i want numbered and those that i do not want numbered use the same format.

    title page

    preface

    glossary

    toc

    1 intro

    2 first chapter

    11 last chapter

    index

    list of figures

All of these documents contain a format for title : C:<$chapnum>.\t but as you can see i only want the actual chapters to be numbered. This works everywhere except on the generated pages. In the TOC and Index my titles keep appearing numbered

    1. name of title page as in document.

Does this mean i have to create a new format to be included in the TOC for the chapters that i do not want numbered?

    Thanks for the help

    Regards,

    Pieter
