Odd character replacement when saving as PDF (FM 2022)

When using the Save as PDF or Publish options, the @ symbol and fullstop in URLs are replaced by the ` (grave) and ' (apostrophy) characters, respectively.  In some cases, where the text is bold, spaces are replaced by the > character. Where the < and > characters are used, they are replaced by a triangle and square, respectively.

This doesn't happen when Printing to PDF.

I've not run into this issue before, but am using a different front (Montserrat). Could this be an issue with the font when generaing PDF? Do I need to change something in the Publish Settings?

Much appreciated.

    Correct answer QuintinSeegers

I realised it's been several months since, but thought I'd give an update on this issue, for anyone else that comes across a similar problem.

When using the Save as PDF or Publish option, we're still getting the same results with // - @ characters being replaced by ' characters. However, if printing directly to the Adobe PDF printer (File > Print, select Adobe PDF as the Printer) the // - @ characters are correct.

I've also found that this only happens in Structured documents.

P.S. We've since updated to FM2022 v17.0.2 and is still having this issue.

Another update. After much to-ing and fro-ing, changing fonts, it looks like it's an issue with the Montserrat Medium font. After changing to the standard Montserrat font, the issue is resolved.

    What version of FM?
Are you using the variable or the static instances of Monserrat?

Not sure what you mean by 'variable' or 'static' instances of Montserrat. I'm using Montserrat 'plain' for text

and Montserat with Bold (Weight) for text in bold:

If downloaded from Google, the .zip contains a couple of .ttf (OTF) font files named:
    Montserrat-Italic-VariableFont_wght.ttf
    Montserrat-VariableFont_wght.ttf

There is also a static/ dir there, and it contains 18 more fonts in .ttf files, all single variation.
Entirely apart from there being no Bold listed for the 'Var' fonts, FM may not yet support Variable fonts (the modern way of doing the old Adobe Multiple Master variations). What happens when you try to use a Variable OTF font in FM, and specifically if you apply a variation such as Bold, is not known to me.

So before exploring more exotic explanations for these codepoint anomalies, find out exactly what is installed on your system.
