Question

Paragraph Number Disconnect after Flow disconnect/re-connect

I have an unstructured document and somehow I did a "crtl-click" on the flow frame and one page became disconnected from "flow A".

The frame on the page above was still "flow A" and the frame on the page below was still "flow A", but this one page was an un-labeled frame now.

This page had two steps on it and became re-numbered as 0.0.1 and 0.0.2. The last step on the page above was 8.3.27 and the 1st step on the page below was 8.3.30.

I was able to get this errant page re-connected, but now there are two step numbers missing. What was 0.0.1 is now 8.3.30 with 8.3.27 right above it the rest of the document continues on fine from 8.3.30.

I've tried updating my "book", quitting and restarting, but somehow I still have two numbers missing between 8.3.27 and 8.3.30 all in the same "Flow A".

Format > Document > Numbering... > Paragraph is still set to "Restart Page Numbering"

Any hints/help on getting my paragraph numbers reset to be continuous would be a big help

Thanks,
Bill

    Hans and Art,

Thanks for the replies and help.

While trying Art's suggestion I found the problem.

I copied the text at the end of the file and noticed that new pages weren't being added for the text that overflowed the last page.

I checked under Formats > Customized Layouts > Customized Text Frames and saw "Autoconnect" was not selected. So I selected it and a new page was added for the overflowed text. The correct master page was not applied so I did a "Apply Master Pages.." and low and behold the original text was re numbered correctly.

I guess during the errant disconnect/re-connect "Autoconnect" was defaulted off.

All is well again after a few wasted hours.

    Thanks again for the help,
    Bill

    Hans,

Forgive my ignorance, but I guess I don't understand what you are asking me to do.

I searched the help for "body text" and only find "body pages".

In my copy of FrameMaker 7.1, ALT-F9 is not assigned to anything (but I see CTRL-F9 does transpose) and CTRL-V is paste.

When I update my book I select "Update Numbering", but that does not correct the problem.

Any other help will be greatly appreciated

I'd make a backup copy of the file first.
Then try copying the content from that page to the end of the file, deleting the page and following pages, saving, and then pasting in the content at the end of the new, shortened file.

What happens if you convert the steps to body text, do a save, and then re-apply the step numbering (ALT-F9 and CTRL-V)?

    Best,
