PDF file name is name of a PDF file a weeks ago

Hi,

FrameMaker 2020 (16.0.4.1062)

Every some months I get this issue:

I have a FM file or book. Create the PDF with Save As PDF. (In the Publish pod Distiller is activated.)

FrameMaker creates the PDF. However, the file name is not that of the current FM file or book but that of a file ABC which I had created a week ago. And I had created this file ABC with Word and not with FrameMaker.

Additionally:

o PDF is not in the folder of the FM file, but in C:\Users\xxx\Documents\

o Application is not FrameMaker, but InDesign 17.3. (I do not have InDesign on this laptop and never had.)

The FrameMaker file is on an external SSD, no network.

I have no clue, where this might come from.

Has anyone else seen this as well?

Best regards

Winfried

Does this happen with both a Print to PDF workflow, and with the Publish>PDF workflow?

I cannot te6. This happens so rarely that I cannot make tests. In my workflow I use Save As via Publish, but with the Distiller.

We have seen what might be the same problem in both FM 2015 and FM 2019. Rarely, when one or more files is open in Acrobat and FM creates a PDF file, the result is saved to the currently displayed file in Acrobat instead of the desired file. We have seen this behavior using different versions of Acrobat, different versions of Windows, and different versions of FM. Creating the new PDF file can be done with Publish, Save as PDF, or an FDK client. I don't remember if we've seen it when printing to PDF. The overwritten file may be a PDF file displayed in an anchored frame in the FM document or it may be a totally unrelated file (such as a recipe saved from the Internet). We also have been unsuccessful in finding circumstances which cause the problem to recur.

It seems like I've also seen some ghost PDF names as well, but haven't been keeping notes on the suspect workflow.

One thing that should be easily eliminated as a suspect is
    FM: File » File Info
When creating a new doc from an old one, that will inherit unless revised.

I made sure all my template files have NO file information in them, and I only create new documents from the templates, so that, at least, is out.

And when I create the PDF in a second attempt without changing anything (FM and this file are still open), the PDF is correctly created with the correct name in the correct folder.

The laptop is just a few weeks old. However, I had experienced this also with the laptop before. Therefore it's not something on my Windows installation.

Huh. I've noticed this happening myself and thought it was something I had done because sometimes I just click through speedily, you know? So I wasn't entirely certain it wasn't something I'd done.

I'll have to slow down and see if I can figure out if there's a trigger.

After I sent the post above, I heard of a friend who also has this problem. Rarely, but sometimes.

I create 98 % of my PDFs with FrameMaker and Distiller.

Therefore I do not know, if this problem also comes up with other applications.
