Question

PDF from FM2019 with Simplified Chinese font Adobe Heiti doesn't work when publishing via Distiller

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help with this. I'm using FrameMaker 2019/DITA and have a document that is combined English/Chinese Simplified. I have activated the Adobe Heiti font using Creative Cloud and have some of the DITA elements defined to use this font in FrameMaker. All works well in authoring.

However, when I publish to PDF via the FM book route, and enable the Use Acrobat Disiller for PDF generation option in the Publish Setting dialog, no PDF is produced.

This is the error displayed in the Distiller window:

%%[ Error: undefinedresource; OffendingCommand: findresource ]%%

Stack:
/CIDFont
/AdobeHeitiStd-Regular
{--pop-- 4 --index-- --add--}
/AdobeHeitiStd-Regular-hf
/WinCharSetFFFF-H
/AdobeHeitiStd-RegularH

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Distill Time: 00 Hour(s) : 00 Minute(s) : 00.156 Second(s)
**** End of Job ****

If I disable the  Use Acrobat Disiller for PDF generation option in the Publish Setting dialog, I can correctly publish the PDF. Is this because Creative Cloud fonts are not stored on my computer locally? If I need to add a new font location in Distiller, which folder should I add?

I need to use  Use Acrobat Disiller for PDF generation option in the Publish Setting dialog. Is there any way I can also use the Creative Cloud Adobe Heiti font ?

Thanks.

This prior comment by Dov might have a useful tip.

Separately, is Adobe Heiti an OTF Variable font? (Variables are not yet supported in FM).

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your response. I don't believe Heiti is a variable font. Also I cannot download it from Google as this is an Adobe font.

What I was getting at is using cloud fonts at all. Dov was pretty clear about: "That being the case, my personal advice is to absolutely not use {fontname} via the Adobe Fonts Service. If you have already {fontname} fonts via the Adobe Fonts Service, deactivate ASAP (and preferably, turn off the Adobe Fonts service entirely from the Creative Cloud desktop application). Get out of FrameMaker, reboot your system…"
