Please help! FM 10 is crashing: Error 10014

Hello all,

I have never had this problem before: FM 10 is closing down on me. Here is the error message:

Internal Error 10014, 7686376, 7686666, 10069197. FrameMaker has detected a serious problem and must quit. A file named C:\Users\.....\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\10\FrameLog_11.12.13_10.21.25.txt has been generated which contains information that may help Frame development improve the product for future releases. Please describe your recent actions and send this, along with the generated file, to fmerror@adobe.com.

Another message is:

Adobe FM 10 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Some background:

-I switched from FM 9 to 10 about a month ago, and have not had this problem before with 10

-I was told that I need to save Word files to the 97-2003 version before importing them in. I have been doing that and never had a problem.
-Today I tried importing the regular Word file (the 2010 version, not the compatible-with-older-versions kind), and it imported just fine

-I also tried creating a brand-new FM file, thinking the file itself was corrupted (didn't work)

-Tried shut down/reboot

-Tried working with just FM running (exited out of the recently installed Microsoft Lync 2010--does this new software have something to do w/ it?)

Has anyone else gotten this error message and know how I can fix it?

THANK YOU in advance...it is so frustrating when you just need to get work done.

    Jessie,

I have no idea if it might help, but 10.0.1 is not the current version. So you might want to consider updating to 10.0.2. If the built-in notification does not work (might be blocked by your admins), go there:

Thanks, Michael! I did not know that. I will let my IT people know.

I am starting to think it has something to do with importing the Word file. I have started working on an old project, and everything is running just fine. I can save, and no error messages.

One thing that I do when starting a new project is I open an old project chapter and SAVE AS the new file. That way I have all the formats I want (I do this instead of importing formats). Then I delete all the text and import the new Word file and begin formatting. I've never had a problem creating new chapter files like this before, but something makes me think it has to do with importing the Word file. As to why it's a problem now is still a mystery.

    Jessie,

In this case you might consider »MIF washing«, i.e. save the suspect file as MIF and open that MIF file again to save as FM. This will filter out binary garbage…

Has anyone else gotten this error message ...

    See this still-active thread:

Thanks, Error. I'm keeping my eye on this thread too. I wonder if this problem is a result of the same root cause for everyone or if it comes about for different reasons.

    Hi everyone,

My IT department was able to fix the problem. I asked him how they fixed it so that I could share the answer here, and he told me he didn't know exactly how, but that he contacted Adobe Support, they remotely accessed my computer, and renamed a folder (probably the Lingustics folder that people in this thread are discussing about this same problem:

    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/927911?tstart=0

My Lingustics stuff now looks something like this:

    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\OldLinguistics\Dictionaries

and inside the dictionaries folder, it has
    AdobeCustomDictionary
    FMDocDictionary
    FMSiteDictionary
    FMUSerDictionary

I would suggest that anyone having this same problem contact Adobe Support, and I hope they can just fix the problem for you as well.

Thank you, ALL, for your help through this. I really appreciate this forum--it is full of great people who are generous about sharing their FM knowledge. I hope to be able to offer solutions one day like you all do for me and others (give me 10 years).

Enjoy the holidays, everyone, and I wish that you are surrounded by friends and family and enter 2012 with happiness and health!

P.S. I am using Windows 7, and the messages appear (1) when I click save and (2) at random when I am working. Thank you!!!
