Post Script printing in Frame Maker 10

I am on Windows 7 Pro, I have TCS 3.5 and using Frame Maker 10. I cannot print a PDF file of a FM book - some of the fonts (especially in titles) are garbled. I was told to install a Post Script printer.  I downloaded the Adobe universal PS print driver.  When I try to print to the PS printer, it is not a selection in FM.  Now what?

Your install of TCS should have created the AdobePDF printer instance. You should set it as your default printer when in FM. Most of us use the freebie SetPrint plug-in to make it our default Windoiws printer only inside FM while leaving our "real" printers set as the default in our other non-FM apps. You'll need to uninstall that downloaded driver and try to repair your Acrobat install from the TCS installer. You may end up having to uninstall all of Acrobat and reinstall it again via TCS.

I have a crazy situation being a remote employee for a company that does not allow printing to a local printer when you are connected to the company network via RSA.  So I did what you said and installed freeware from http://sundorne.com/FrameMaker/Freeware/setPrint.htm. Then when I disconnected from the company, I was able to print. This was just plain crazy.  I did not have to uninstall or reinstall anything - I printed the file to a post script file and then opened Adobe Distiller and drug the .ps file into it.  Worked beautifully.  Wish I had known this before I wasted 2 days messing around with it.

Make certain that you are up-to-date with your patches for FM. The 10.0.2 patch resolved most of the PDF printing issues. Also, unless you're producing output for press work, don't use the CMYK option when creating PDF files.
