Printing books in FrameMaker 8 - Issue with updating book

Hello all!

I wonder whether anyone has experienced the same issue or knows the way out of it...

So, the issue is the following:

We use FM 8 Structured for managing our documentation. Not long ago we moved from Tortoise SVN to TFS source control tool for storing our documentation sources.

And all would be great but for the issue we are having when printing books. Now, when updating the book, we oftentimes get the errors that some files could not be saved though these files are checked out for editing and nothing is wrong with them.

We then update the book once more (having done nothing to the files listed in the error log) and the new list of files that could not be saved is shown - this time completely other files, and those that were shown previously are not shown this time.

So after updating the book some 5-6 times, there would be no error displayed and we can proceed with printing.

This wastes lots of time spent for printing books

Has anyone got a clue of what the issue might that be with FM8 and TFS?

Thank you,

Kate

I don't know if this will help or not, but try to first open all files in the book, then do the update. See if that helps. As I recall, this seems to have helped resolve the issue for me in the past. In some cases there could be xrefs or insets to files that you have not checked out (for example, you have a doc that references a note in another file, and therefore an error is noted, but it is a "yeah, whatever" error for you). So, first open all in book (in the book, Ctrl+a, then press Enter may do it for you) before you update and let's hope for the best.
