Question

Problem with graphic on a Master page.

I have a Master page (Right) in a landscape document that includes an 11 x 8.5 graphic. Layered on top of that I have a footer that runs across most of the 11 inch width. I also have a 3-column frame on the Body page. When I deleted the original graphic and imported a new 11 x 8.5 graphic, the footer on the Master page, instead of spanning across all columns, is now just the width of one of the 3 columns. I didn't think I put the 3-column layout on the Master page, but it seems to be there now. And I can't change the Master page footer to be wider than one third of the width. Can someone suggest a way to fix this? Thank you for your help.

It sounds like you either don't have a separate text frame object for the footer or else the footer is set to multiple columns. If you don't have a separate text frame for the footer, you can add one using the Text Frame Tool. When you add it, make sure Columns equals 1. If you already have a footer but it only encompasses one column, select the frame, right click and select Object Properties. Change the number of columns to 1 and set the width to the desired width (the width of your page minus the margins -- for one inch margins the width would be 9"). Then set the Offset From to the amount of space from the top of the page and the left side of the page. If Room for Side Heads is checked, uncheck it. This should take care of it.
