Publish>PDF: Looking for combined JobOption to avoid distorting text and losing graphic transparency

HI All,

I'm running FM2020 on a Windows 10 system.

My 4-page file (a brochure) includes some text (Fonts: kelson/assistant/etc) and graphics with transparencies.

Due to this latest FM version, I can finally, easily create a matching PDF with the transparent graphics coming out nicely on a colored background.

Now my problem is that I can either get all the graphics right or all the text right, but apparently, not both.

I use the "Publish" to PDF option or the Save as PDF option - each time with a different pre-defined or edited joboption:

  *   When I use the Standard job option (or variation thereof) - the text comes out fine, but the graphic transparencies are lost and I get a white background.

  *   When I use the High Quality Print job option - the figures come out fine, but the text (some of the bulleted lines with "Assistant" text come out squished or even misplaced - it's very weird.

How do I combine both of these into a single job option?

Notes:

  *   Although the Assistant fonts are located in my Windows>Fonts folder, the Distiller PDF Font settings don't seem to know that the Assistant font is installed.

  *   I have the FM>Print Setup>Properties: "Rely on System Fonts Only... " checkbox UNCHECKED

Thanks,

Orly

re: How do I combine both of these into a single job option?

Start with one of them, review/revise all the tabs & fields, save it as a new Job Option. Test & revise as needed.

I suspect that very few enterprise FM customers rely on the default assortment of PDF JOs. I never did.

Note that some of the Publish:PDF options new to FM2020 cannot be edited for some reason.

    Thanks Bob,

There are so many settings, it's terribly difficult to keep track of which setting helped to create which output.

There are the Adobe PDF Setting via Save as PDF, and there is the Pulish>PDF but that can still go thru Distiller if you check a box. It would be simpler if these things were documented, i.e. what does what and why.

I spent a ton of time on this yesterday and I still feel like I'm shooting in the dark.

And this would be a real shame, becuase my file is setup so beautifully, I've managed to avoid the need to take the brochure to a graphic artist and save those further costs, but now, becuase I can't manage these JobOptions, poof.. we made need to incur the extra cost of the graphic artist.

Hm. I usually use one of the default job options and make sure that all fonts are embedded. However, we need the PDFs only for online viewing and printing on desktop printers. Nothing special.

Here is a description of the default job options and the various options which you can configure:

When you have questions, if your file prints correctly, then I would discuss this with your printer. He should be the expert that the PDF files were created with the correct settings. Usually this is part of the general consulting, before you give him a job.
