question about indexing styles (FM 9.0)

Somehow, I've managed to get through decades of authoring without ever being called on for an index … but I've recently been translating Joris Verdin's standard work Het Harmoniumhandboek, by way of busman's holiday, and this does require an index.

Layout question: I've set the IX paragraph styles to Adobe Caslon Pro 10, and I find that the page-numbers are disturbingly large. I tried setting a character style for Caslon Pro 9 and using it as a building-block on the Reference page, but this didn't seem to achieve anything. Hints & tips?

    Change the paragraph font settings for the IndexIX paratag. This will only affect all pagenum building blocks used in the index.

    Looks promising! again, a whole day of mere paid employment to get through before I can hurry home and try things out :-}

    The formatting of the IX entries seems to be controlled by two tags:

    1. The "IndexIX" para tag applied to the:
      >......<$pagenum>
      line on the IX file's Reference Page IX, and
    2. The "Level#IX" para tags applied to the entries on the Body Pages at various indent levels.

    I'm not taking bets on which has priority.

    Now if you're trying to have the pagenum be a different font instance from the index entry text, applying a character format to the text <$pagenum> on the RP does seem to work (this is on FM7.1, however).
