question about Split function and page breaks

Hello,

if I have an FM document with pagebreak, and if I try to Split this document
(File/Utilities/Split current document), the result is : on each page
containing a pagebreak, FM added one more page after split.

By example, for an FM document of 3 pages containing :
- A = 1 page with page break (I put a marker on "A" before split)
- B = 1 page with page break (I put a marker on "B" before split)
- C = 1 page without page break (I put a marker on "C" before split)

And after split I have 3 chapters :
- A = 2 pages (one more page added by FM)
- B = 2 pages (one more page added by FM)
- C = 1 page (all is OK)

So for pages with pagebreak, FM added one more page after split. Why ?

Hi Bob,

after the split, an unwanted extra page is appearing after the first page of each chapter file containing a page break.

Why is this the case ?

Hi,

Is there an empty paragraph at the end of each file? What is its format? Is it the format of the heading which also starts each split file? And I assume that you had set it to start on a new page? Then just set it to start anywhere, as this heading is at the start of a new file anyway. (You can do this before your split. Or change this in one of the split files and import the paragraph formats of this file into all other files of the split book.) Then most of these empty pages should disappear. Only when such a paragraph needs more space than is available at the bottom of a page, it will move to a new empty page.

This empty paragraph is an issue of the Split File utility. You can upvote my complaint in the Adobe issue tracker.

Is the unwanted extra page appearing:
- prior to the first page of each new file
- after the first page
- at the end of each new file?

As related in the other recent discussion about Page Break, that dialog is just a fancy way of performing an unwise Pagination override in the currently selected paragraph. Bemoving that override before splitting might fix the problem.
