Hello, I just purchased framemaker 8 and I wish to install it on a windows 7 platform. Is there a simple way of doing this? Does anyone know how to install it?

THanks

You could try downloading the installer of the Windows version of FM 8

and see if your key works with it:

As I recall, this download version actually contains a fix for Win XP

and later, that prevented the installation disk as sold from installing.

(A Windows update broke the original installer.)

    > ... I just purchased framemaker 8 ...

That raises questions all by itself. Is it possible to still buy FM8 for platforms other than Solaris/SPARC?

If not, then the media you have is for Unix will not install on Windows.

    HI,

Actually it is for unix but I was told it will work on XP and that its for all platforms.

Perhaps I shoudl just return it. I wonder though if I could just download the software somewhere and just use the key, if the key will work that is?

What's the problem? Just install it and it runs. I've got it on a couple of Win7 systems.

    Hi Arnis,

Thanks for the response, my computer cannot read the executible files. Do you know what I can use to open it? Im attaching a screen capture, letme know if this is enough information to help you direct me.

    THanks

Run the installer & try it out? You may end up having to create a virtual XP drive in Win7 to install it into, but that would be the last resort. Many early programs can be run in Win7 under XP emulation mode first. Make sure that you have Admin rights on your machine.

What have you tried so far?
