Removing alphabetics from Index

How does one get rid of the first letter (and "Numerics") that appear in the Index?

A

  Apples, 34

  Artichokes, 45

B

   Bananas, 12

   Brussel Sprouts, 22

C

  Carrots, 43

IOW, how do I keep FM9 from adding these A, B, C headers?

I prefer the index to look like this:

  Apples, 34

  Artichokes, 45

  Bananas, 12

  Brussel Sprouts, 22

  Carrots, 43

    Sam,

    Switch to the Reference Pages in your Index document and look for the page with the Index setup, this page is usually named "IX". Inside the text frame on this page you will find a paragraph of format GroupTitlesIX with content like

    Symbols[\ ];Numerics[0];A;B;C;D;E;F;G;H;I;J;K;L;M;N;O;P;Q;R;S;T;U;V;W;X;Y;Z

    What happens if you replace the content of that paragraph with a non-breaking space?

    There is no "IX" reference page.  "IOM" -- yes, "IX" -- no.

    The next time I click the "Update book" button the line you instructed me to replace with a CTRL+SPACE is reinserted into the Reference page.

    In short, this accomplished nothing.
