REWARD FOR SOLVING: FrameMaker 2015 not allowing Save As

Hi all,

I'm in the last stages of submitting my FrameMaker reference book to the printer, and just ran into a "stopper"

Anyone who can solve this will get a free EPUB of the book (already produced, details at http://www.techcommtools.com/framemaker-reference-book/)

A funny (actually, not funny at all) thing started happening yesterday...

When opening any existing projects, I'm unable to use the Save As function.

New files seem unaffected, but existing documents are treated differently.

The issue popped up after a Open All Files in Book crashed my computer.

Has anyone else seen this, or know how to fix it? Please help so I can get this thing out to Amazon!!

    Correct answer techcommtools

Ultimately, I got the problem solved.

    What didn't work:

    • Applying patch (already on 13.0.1)
    • renaming file in Win
    • using backup or recovery files
    • restarting Fm and Win8.1
    • deleting maker.ini files (in install and in Roaming dir)

    What did work

    • the nuclear option, otherwise known as reinstalling FrameMaker

Anything weird with the file permissions on those existing files? No locks or recover files hanging around? What were you trying to Save As? PDF? MIF?

    Hi Jeff,

I did check for write permissions (no problems), and did happen to see that the files were set to compress (folder was blue in File Explorer), however, removing compression (via Properties) didn't resolve.

Locks and recovers (and strange .1ADQ7-ish extensions) all deleted so as to skip the annoying messages.

The only reason I was trying to Save As was because I had an Autosave file that I needed to overwrite as the working file.

Literally, I was creating an aux TOC for meta content submission to the publisher...talk about getting tripped up at the finish line!

Glad to see they have you as an MVP now...well deserved! Me...now they think I have 0 points and my posts have to be approved prior to dist!

And yes, the big red button seems to have solved it.
