Running Footer problem

I have an unstructured FM (12) book with 14 chapters and 5 appendices. For the first 100 pages, the running footer looks fine: 100 Chapter 8, but from Chapter 9 and onwards, it looks like this: 102Chapter 9. In both cases, the Running H/F 2 says

<$paranum[Chapter.number, Appendix.number]>.

Any ideas?

    Check the Chapter 9 file for a missing space between the page number variable (#) and the paranum building block.
