Running H/F on master page does not appear on body page

I'm working with a two-page LOT file. The master pages are defined as First and Last. On the First master page I have a title, "List Of Tables", with the paragraph tag "Heading 1 for Lists". I defined a Running H/F 12 variable as  "<$paratext[Heading 1 for Lists]>". I inserted the Running H/F 12 variable into the footer on the Last master page. I made sure that the corresponding body page is using the "Last" master page. However, the Running H/F does not appear on the body page. I'm not having this problem with any of my other files. What am I missing? Any and all suggestions/solutions very much appreciated.

    Hi Gary:

Here's what I think you have set up:

    • You added a background frame to the First master page and added "List of Tables" to it, and assigned  the "Heading 1 for Lists" paragraph style. This means that the heading appears above the generated LOT text on body page 1.
    • You are now trying to add a Running H/F variable in a background frame on the Last Master page to call that content into the running head on the Last page and it doesn't appear. Is that correct? If so, read on.

FrameMaker can't pull the content from a background frame into a running head. Try this instead:

    • Cut the words List of Tables from the background frame on the First master, and then delete the frame.
    • Paste the words at the very top of the flow on page 1, above the generated content.
    • Update your book: the title will remain at the top of the flow and the H/F variable will be able to pull it into the running head.
