Question

"Save All" option when closing Framemaker

I work often in books with up to 20 or 30 smaller files. Sometimes I would like to exit the book (and associated files that are open) without saving any of the files (or saving all of the files), but I have to manually click to specify for each and every file. It's extremely tedious. An option to automatically apply the specified change (save or do not save) to each open file would be very welcome.

What Mike said, but also, you can tap (not at my machine right now) the key for OK or Yes to save, or D(on't save) or maybe it's N(o save) to dismiss each confirmation dialog box. IIRC, there's a line in either the global or local maker.ini file that you can comment out, to skip confirmation. I can't remember if it's confirmation when quitting, or closing a file, or both.

The feature is already partially there. When working in the .book file, if

you hold down the shift key and click File, you will see options for saving

or closing all files in the book. So you can save all files in the book and

then close all files in the book, and you won't get the individual

dialogues. However, if you only want to close the files without saving any

of them, you will get the dialogues for any files that have been changed.

Note that FrameMaker marks some as changed, even when they weren't, when it

updates cross-references.

Thanks for the reply, Mike. I was thinking more along the lines of, when you're prompted to Save/No/Cancel a file, adding a tiny check box that lets you apply that choice to all files in the book (so you don't have to manually specify it NOT save for each file open). I didn't know about the Shift+File options though. Useful, thanks.

Also, thanks Peter, I'll go take a look at my maker.ini file. Would still be nice to have this feature by default rather than trying to hack the configuration file.
