Section disapearing when balancing columns

Hello,

I have noticed a strange behaviour of Framemaker, with a structured (.fm) document and a 2 columns text frame layout: when the "balance columns" option is checked (Text Frame Properties > Text Frame > Balance columns) I have a whole section that disapears. The section re-appears when I uncheck the "balance columns" option.

Does it look like a genuine bug to you or could it be someting that I am doing wrong ?

Thanx in advance !

Best regards

Eric

    Hi Eric,

Yes. There are a number of bugs with a balanced two-column layout.

I assume that the bottom line of your text frame is solid, when this happens.

I had noticed your issue as well. Often it helps to just enter some empty paragraphs at the end of one of the columns.

You can create a bug report in the Adobe Tracker: https://tracker.adobe.com/#/home

You could also add some test files, so that Adobe can reproduce this.

When you post the bug number, I will vote for it!

    Eric,

What happens if you reformat your document, perhaps by importing element definitions from the current document? Also, it probably won't make any difference, but can you use Filter by Attribute instead of conditional text?

    Hi Lynne,

    Thanx for your answer.

I tried importing both EDD and format, nothing helped.

Actually in that document we don't use conditionals (yet) but we do in others, and we would like to be able to automatically balance columns in all of them. For now we do it with an attribute that triggers the pagination > start in next column behaviour, but this has to be manually adapted to each conditional-version of the document, which is annoying 🙂

    Hello,

Sorry for digging out an old thread, but this issue is still going-on, and still annoying !

Is Adobe going to fix this bug anytime soon ?

    Thanks

    Hi Winfried,

Thanx for your answer ! I need to reproduce the bug first with lipsum lorem, asa the document that I am working on is confidential, but I will do, as I think this ruins the whole "automatic layout" behaviour that we actually need because we implement conditional texts in our documentation.
