shortcut for FM 10

Strange: can't understand why I've not got round to asking this earlier :-}

Special > Variables obediently opens the Variables tab, but apart from reaching for the mouse and selecting one of the Close options from the context menu how do I then get rid of it and reclaim valuable screen real estate?

And while I'm asking, I don't suppose there's a handy F-key that accesses variables the way F8 and F9 access character and paragraph styles? or some other shortcut?

Hi Niels

Yeah, I don't like the Variables pod either and I don't know of any way to get rid of it. There is a shortcut for inserting variables, however: CTRL+0+ the first character of your variable name.

You have to use the 0 key on your regular keyboard, not the one on your numeric keypad. On my Belgian keyboard, my 0 key also has the characters "à" and "}" on it.

The CTRL+0 shortcut almost works like the one in FrameMaker 8, except that pressing the first character of your variable name no longer works. For example, in Fm8 you could do CTRL+0 and then press "c" a couple of times to scroll through all the variables of which the name started with a "c" (current date long/short, creation date long/short, chapter number). This no longer works in Fm10 but is has been fixed in Fm11 where you get a context menu.

HTH (a bit).

I'm on an AZERTY here, so it is indeed ctrl + à … and ctrl + à "pr" calls up the productname variable. Thanks, Yves; that will be a lot more comfortable than hammering the pod back into the ground every I've popped it up!
