Simplified English checker recommendations

I'm working with FramaMaker 10 (and Robohelp 9). We sell our software to an international market, many of whom don't have English as their first language, so for future releases we'd like to edit the most popular of our docs to use simplified technical English. Using it will also make it easier for our users to run text through machine translators and get good quality results, or for us to translate the docs more easily at some point in the future.

Can anyone recommend any grammar checker plugins, ideally for FrameMaker, but at a pinch for Acrobat Pro or RoboHelp.

A quick Google search has turned up:

MAXit Checker

Boeing Simplified Englsh Checker

HyperSTE

All of which seem to have FM plugins, but they're all pretty opaque about how much they cost without waking up the sales attack dogs. None of them seem to do any try before buy offers either (unlike the excellent 1 month trials for Adobe stuff!).

Anyone tried using any of the above, or others?

Paul,

Last week, TechScribe released an open-source term checker for Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100) issue 3. The software is on www.simplified-english.co.uk.

Unfortunately, the software checks plain text only.

I might have exactly something that you need.I am not sure what your actual requirement are however there is a Framemaker plugin that do Market overview of recommendable language checkers (spelling, grammar, style, terminology) and terminology databases, especially in connection with the creation of technical documentation and user assistance .

It is known as SDL Author Assistant 2010 for Adobe FrameMaker.

Link to download is http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4959

try it out and let me know if that helps.
