Question

Smaller padding when importing graphics

FrameMaker 7.2

When I import graphics into a table (one small picture per cell), the padding is about 2,2 mm on each side. I would like it to be 1 mm on each side. Now I have to select the imported graphic, copy the height, select the frame, paste the height I just copied and then add 2 mm. Would be so much easier if I could, once and for all, adjust the padding to 1 mm.

    Hi Lena,

You can also select the imported graphics and press

    ESC m p

    Press the keys in succession.

This shrinkwraps the anchored frame to the frame content.

Admittedly an additional step, but very easy.

I can also recommend this script:

    http://www.i-frame.itl.info/en/feature-description/i-frame-modules/base-pack/scale-graphics-proportionally.html

Very convenient! One of the scripts which I use most often!

As far as I know you can also buy scripts separately.

    Best regards

The Esc m p sounds great. I will add the padding to the table instead of the frame. Thanks for your help! The script is not for me, I don't understand how it works or how I should do.

I have now tried Esc m p. All worked well except that the frame went from being centered to left adjustment. When I looked at the Quick Reference, this was the explanation:

Shrink-wrap an anchored frame (shrink the frame to an object and position the frame at the insertion point

Do you know if there's a way to shrink-wrap an anchored frame but NOT move it to the insertion point? I can't find that anywhere.

    Lena,

What you're seeing is FM's hard-wired default for the padding in an anchored frame (6pt). With newer versions of FM (11 and up) you could use object styles to create anchored frames with specific padding (and other attributes). However, with FM7.2 you'll probably need a plug-in to fix this.

The only one that I'm aware of that has this capability and is currently available is Russ Ward's WS Utilities (http://www.weststreetconsulting.com/WSC_Utils.htm) - there was another one that would allow you to set the padding, IMPgraph from Bruce Foster, but that is no longer available due to his passing.

Thank you. That plug-in sounds interesting, but it doesn't support FM7. I guess we will have to upgrade one of these days, but we are hesitating as we don't use any of the newer functions. 7.2 is enough for us. But I guess we will have to upgrade one of these days...

Till then I will have to do as I described above. Now at least I know that there isn't any quick fix that I don't know about

    Thanks for your answer!
