Soft Returns and TOCs

I sometimes need to use a "soft" return in a Header. Unfortunately, this is picked up in the TOC. Is there a way to add a feature to the TOC function to give the user the option to ignore "soft" returns? Thank you.

You could always use non-breaking spaces to keep things together so that they break like with a soft return. Then in the TOC you won't necessarily run into the entry breaking over to the next line. However, it's not always guaranteed to work. Swapping a space for a soft-return could be a better route.
