Special Char not Translating into Horizontal Tab in Structured FM 11

In the office where I work, we are upgrading from Structured FrameMaker 8 in Win XP to Structured FrameMaker 11 in Win 7. Part of the work that I do involves importing xml feeds into Structured FrameMaker templates using an automated process. As I am testing the importing into FM 11 I am noticing that the special character code used for a horizontal tab - - is not translating into a tab after the xml feed has been imported into the FM 11 template. It does translate into a horizontal tab when imported into FM 8. What special character code should be used for horizontal tabs in FM11?

I just did a quick test and came into FM11 as a tab. #&08; did not.

You might try (too strange to explain why). However, why not just use an actual tab character?

Remember that in order for spaces (including tabs and line breaks) to not be normalized into a single space, you need to use the "preserve line breaks" rule for that element. Perhaps in your FM8 structure app that was set up and in the FM11 app it's not?

I’m assuming that the preserve line breaks rule is set up in the Read/Write rules. If that is the case, I migrated the Read/Write rules systems file from FM8 to FM11, so it is the same Read/Write Rules file. Is there anywhere else where the preserve line breaks rule needs to be applied?

As far as I know .. just the r/w rules file.
