Structure View pod disappear when open new document

This is normally controlled by the active workspace. Are you familiar with workspaces, which you can select and manage with that little dropdown in the application title bar, far to the right? If you save your desired setup, it should replicate when you open documents. I do notice, thought, that I often have to manually reset my workspace when I first start up the app, then after that it behaves OK.
