Question

Tab stops in index

I'm formatting a two-column index trying to set up leaders on the reference pages. In the paragraph designer pod, I specify a new tab stop, and when I get to the Edit Tab Stop dialog box, it asks me to specify a new tab position and a leader style.

How do you specify a tab position, i.e., in what units? Do you specify a different tab position for each column?

Cheer,

JP

In file IX.fm, on Reference Page IX, set it for each paragraph of name xyzzyIX, using the Paragraph Designer.

Thanks! That was very helpful in that I now have the tab stop where I want it.

But I'm not yet there. When I update the 1IX and 2IX paragraph definitions and Update All, the

entries generated have the tab symbol between the entry and the page number.

(I used the same tab stop position of 2.0" in both the designer and in the Edit

Tab Stop dialog.)

But the numbers do not move to the tab stop.

However, if I put the insertion point between the entry and the page number (on the body page

and and on one side or the other of the TAB symbol -- I can't tell which) --

and then type a TAB, the number does move to the tab stop -- and it even generates the leader.

This sounds like something simple (which probably describes me as well).

Any ideas?

Cheers,

JP

The prototype xyzzyIX paragraphs on the Ref Page do not include a tab by default.

You need to type one into each para there.
