Hi everyone,

I have an FM page within my FM book, which has a multi-column table. Column 1 contains a sequential number in square brackets [1]. The next column on the same row is a document reference for an external document, the next column is the revision, and the final column is the title.

Throughout the book and associated pages (separate FM files), I have a placeholder [1] wherever the reader needs to reference the external document [1].

Question 1, what is the best method to link or hyperlink the placeholders [1] back to the table of references and, if possible, the actual table row?

Question 2, is it possible to use the sequential number in the table in the placeholder through the book. i.e. [1] in the table would be seen where every the reader is notifed of an external document.

Yes, you can use autonumbering to add the numbers in the cells. If you want to schedule a web meeting with me, I can walk you through the basics of setting things up. Please contact me offlist. rick at frameexpert dot com

Question 1: The placeholder throughout the book could be linked back to the table with a cross-reference.

I am not sure I understand Question 2.

Thank you for the reply and I will take a look at cross-references. Being new to FM, i'm getting comfused with the amount of options - cross-references, hypertext, hotspots, markers etc.

As regards Q2. I wasn't at all clear, now I re-read the question.

Can the cells in a table be sequentailly numbers like for example chapter or section numbers. Or do I need to type fresh text in each cell. 1 in cell 1, 2 in cell 2 etc.
