Text frame cutting text

Hi folks,

 

I've a text frame that is cutting the text. How to resolve it?

    Yes, this text clipping does happen and it is depending on the font metrics. There are a few fonts with which it doesn't happen (or to a lesser degree), but there is no distinct parameter in the paragraph or character formats with which it could be avoided.

    However, I found an easy solution which allows you to precisely control the distance to the upper frame border. I suppose you're using a special paragraph format for these callouts. You'll need to modify this format as follows:

     

    1. On the Reference page, create a new empty graphic frame with a useful name (I've named it "Callout frame above" in the example shown below). Note: The name is given when creating the frame and cannot be modified afterwards! The title above is just text which does not control the frame's name. Make sure the frame  is transparent and does not contain any color fill:

     

     

    2. Next: In the paragraph format, enable this frame to be used as "frame above".

     

    Now you can use the height of this frame to control the distance of the paragraph to the upper text frame border.

      How are you pulling in the black color - is that a property of the text frame ?

      More importantly: what are you trying to achieve with the text frame ? There is no context here so it is hard to give you a good solution. If you want to have some kind of heading with fancy background color, I would suggest using a one cell table, give it the required background color and centering the text vertically and horizontally. If there are reasons why this would not work, there will be other solutions, but you will have to be much more precise in describing the situation.

      Does this clipping appear only during edit in FM,
      or is it also apparent in the output (PDF, print, HTML, etc.)?

      This is the result in PDF...it doesn't cut but it's not align with the black frame.

      My top 2 suspects for this are:
      1. defective font metrics (a font problem), and
      2. an FM bug

       

      For cases like these, and any number of other reasons, I find that my Paragraph Catalogs often need to include formats named:
      Shim & Shim.keep

      Indents & Space: all 0
      Alignment: Center
      Line Spacing 6.0 pt ☑ Fixed
      Next Pgf Tag: ¶{your choice}
      Family: Source Code Pro {or other other monospaced}
      Size: 6.0 pt {4.0 might be more useful, but is apt to greek on you}
      Above: 0 pt, Below: 0 pt
      Color: ☑ Authoring {usually a light green, on for authoring, turned off via ColorViews for pub}
      Pagination: no keeps, or keeps {for Shim.keep}
      Format: ◉ Across All Columns {needs a re-think for multi-column}
      ☑ Autonumber Format:
      ¶Shim:\x11 {and some comment about why-used-here is generally typed into the Body text of this}

      I think the case is different.

       

      The text frame that I created is cutting the upper part of the word TEST, you are able to see the dash line above it. I would like to understand why and how can I manage the word to no be cutted by the frame.
