Text Insets

Hello all,

I have text insets that our folks are using as Graphics. I have never incorporated text insets in structure but I assume that they must live in a graphic element.

How do I get this text inset to be referenced in the xml and stop FrameMaker from creating .cgm graphic files upon saving the .xml?

Any direction to reading material or a quick list of a to do list to get myself on the right track would help greatly!

Margaret,

I assume the content of those text files somehow contains anchored frames which contain graphics built with FrameMaker’s graphic tools?

Well, without looking at text insets, the default behaviour for handling anchored frame content is:

a) if the anchored frame contains exactly one referenced external graphic file you can instruct FrameMaker (via R/W rules) to create an XML element with an attribute showing this file name.

b) in all other cases (if the anchored frame contains more than one item or a copied graphic), FrameMaker creates a single representation of the complete anchored frame, which by default is in CGM format (you can have other formats as well).

So before digging any deeper, what do you want to achieve? Just another format than CGM?

Thank you for the info. I forgot that the referenced graphic, framemaker, is

indeed multiple items which is the reason then that .cgm is used. my goal

is to keep the engineers from having to manager a drawing file and a display

graphic such as png or cgm.

I wonder of I moved the drawing out of the anchored frame in the referenced

document?

Frame should get ahead of the industry and figure out how to create svg

files that would compete with visio. I will not sell Illustrator to an

engineering firm
