Question

the parting of the ways

Once upon a time in my consultancy days … the company I was working with asked if I knew any program that a) might do a better job than Lotus WordPro; b) wasn't made by Microsoft. I said I'd heard a colleague mention something called FrameMaker, though I hadn't worked with it myself. The following week, I came in and found a copy of FM 5.5 on my desk plus a PostIt: "Niels – install. Learn. Use."
So I obediently did, and since then I've enjoyed not just using the software but also taking part in the forum and (in more expansive days) visiting events such as the Chatauqua. It has always seemed to me that a face-to-face gathering for the forum would make for a great party!
Time passes, though, and now retirement looms. Not a question today, then, just a general thank-you to everyone who's helped me over the years. Whatever the future holds, good luck and happy Framing :-}

    I remember maybe 15 years ago or more, when you were less incognito, that a colleague and I were commenting on what a cool name you have. Congratulations... I look forward to my own escape.

    Oh yes, something or other happened! and when I had to set up a new profile
    I wasn't allowed to use my name ‒ avatars must have been cool at the time.
    Good luck with your countdown ;-}

    Congrats on the retirement, and do keep coming around as time and desires allow. I've enjoyed your posts and always found something to learn.

    Gosh, since you're asking … my first name was deftly revealed in the post, but I don't have anything against revealing myself in full as Niels Grundtvig Nielsen. A native English speaker, despite the name, I've spent most of my career working in France or Belgium: and using FrameMaker, of course. (while initially regretting Bookmaster, though this experience came in handy when DITA arrived)

    Keep up the good work!

    Best wishes FP. Stay fiery and beware of the pastels.

    Do check in from time to time, as Adobe might (or might not) do something that makes FM practical for casual users once again (such as offer it as a metered cloud service).

    Coincidentally, Dov Isaacs, announced on the ACP Forum that yesterday would be his last day at Adobe.

    Yes. I can only agree with the others! I always liked your comments!

    Have a good time! Take care!

    For me it's still 9 years 😉

    Best regards

    Hi @FieryPantone:

    Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! I've enjoyed interacting with you here and on the InDesign forum. We've chatted enough that I've wondered what your first name is—did you finally let us know with your Post-it note? 😊

    Anyway, I wish you the best and will miss your thoughtful questions and answers.

    Best,

    ~Barb
