Question

The two options to create PDF

Hi

Compared to earlier versions of Framemaker where I used to go through Distiller to create PDFs (for printing of book on digital machine through printing on demand) I now have a different option to create a PDF directly without Distiller to be installed.

My layouter has used that option because he does not have Acrobat. Does this PDF have the same quality as when I go through Distiller or would one of the two created better printing quality?

Any feedback, comparison or experience with this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Silvia

The SaveAsPDF does use Distiller, albeit silently in the background, with some post-processing of the postscript prior to distilling.

In FM9, make certain that you have "Convert CMYK colors to RGB" checked, as this runs the older mode and is more reliable. The new CMYK PDF still is quite buggy.

The "quality" of your PDF depends upon the specifications used in the joboptions file in the SaveAsPDF Settings.

Wow, thanks for your answer, very helpful.

The option "convert SMYK colors to RGB is probably not critical when the book is black/white/grayscale, is it?

    Thanks

It's not critical, but it is flawed...

So if you like to take chances, you can ignore it.
