    Hi @nikitags02:

Jeff and Bob are correct of course, but as a trainer who watches people freeze in horror when I say the word "Tab" in class, I'm going to add one more thing that may not be obvious: you will need to set a second tab stop for your TOC heading. If you aren't comfortable setting tabs (and if so, you are in good company) keep reading.

    TOC Reference page

In addition to adding the tab character between <$paranum> and <$paratext>, you need to set a tab stop to control the space in between. This is more confusing than you might think because <$paranum> is physically so much longer than 2.1.3 so the tab position looks awful. In the screen shot below I set two tabs: a Left tab at 0.5" and a right tab with leaders at 4.0".

Trust the process and update the book.

    Body pages

Here's how it looks on the body pages:

    • The auto-numbers are against the left margin.
    • The 0.5" tab stops controls the distance between the margin and the heading text.
    • The right tab with leaders controls the page number position.

You need to include a tab character in the building blocks of the Reference page of the TOC file.

    Which is usually filename TOC.fm
    Reference Page “TOC”
    Template paragraphs of type HeadingNameTOC
    which might look like:
    ‹$paranum›〉‹$paratext›〉…………………‹$pagenum›
    ‹$paranum›〉‹$paratext›〉…………………‹$pagenum›
           ‹$paranum›〉‹$paratext›〉……………‹$pagenum›

It's that first tab “〉” that is missing.
‹$paranum› might have a different name, or be an expression.
The Tab definitions for those para types might need an extra tab stop.
