Transfering PageMaker legacy docs into FM9

Hello everyone,
I have before me the interesting task of taking a heavy equipment maintenance manual that was done years ago in PageMaker and transferring its content into a FM9 template that I've just created to somehow respect the look and feel of the original documents.
Can anyone cast some light into what's the best and easiest way to do that?
I have certainly never done that kind of work before and I was wondering about automation for this task since I only have a few weeks to complete it.

I really appreciate a hand on this.

PS: I use FM9 running on Vista and the docs are in PageMaker 6

FrameMaker 8 will open PageMaker 6.5 or 7 documents and make a stab at converting them.

A couple of tests Ive run suggest that the result would be a fair starting-point, and quicker than going via RTF. But no doubt success will depend upon the structure of the PageMaker file.

I dont know if FrameMaker 9 has the same import option. I guess youve tried.

    Thanks Van,
If I understand well there is no mapping available to transfer content from PageMaker into FM.

It seems to me that even if I find a shortcut to output the content in any usable format, I won't be able to avoid the hectic reformatting to adapt all of it to the new FM template.

I'll keep on looking and trying though... best way to learn!!!

    Roberto,

I have never done this, but barring a PageMaker import filter for Frame, you can try exporting from PageMaker in RTF and then importing the RTF into FrameMaker. Of course, it requires that PageMaker can export in RTF.

I do not import RTF content, but others on this forum suggest that the import is good.
