Turn Numbering Error Alert Back On

I got the classic book vs. file numbering error while updating a book. I checked the box to hide the messages for the rest of the update. I’d like to turn it back on. I could swear it used to be in Preferences > Global > Alerts, but can’t seem to find it. Does anyone know how to get to it?

Yes, its the inconsistent numbering error. It has the checkbox to suppress the error for the rest of the book update process. I’d like to avoid the full reset (I’m not sure what all it affects). I’m combing the maker.ini file and can find the other items on the Alert menu (i think). I’ll post results/research if I find something of note. Anyone else got any thoughts? I was like 99% sure I would find it in the Alerts menu when I went looking for it. GAH!

My experience was it was only suppressed for the current update; if I closed & reopened the book again, the message would appear.

That “Don’t show again” checkbox is just for the current Update Book process. It will show each time you update the book.

Hmmm. I wonder why it didn’t show the very next time I did it. Ghost error?

If the numbering between your book components and their documents is consistent, you won’t see it.

Wait. Maybe you mean you disabled update Numbering in the Update Book dialog box? That would stop the error message from appearing.

Hmmm. The only numbering error I can recall seeing during a book update is the inconsistent numbering error, which we solve by selecting the files in the book window, and updating the numbering in Format > Document > Numbering. And I don’t recall being able to disable that message without resolving the numbering. Maybe I’m just having a senior moment.

But, I can say with confidence that the alert messages are controlled via Preferences > Global > Alerts and as you know, that one isn’t listed.

An alternative is to reset all of FrameMaker to what is essentially a fresh installation without having to use uninstall/reinstall, which I outline here: https://www.rockymountaintraining.com/adobe-framemaker-resetting-preferences/. Note that while this still works, I wrote it a while back so you are now looking for the 17 folder and not the 14/15 shown in the screenshots.
