underline in paragraph designer

When I create a paragraph tag and have it set to underline set in the Character Format section, it looks to be changing how the letter/number looks on screen. For our documents we use Century Schoolbook as the font (its a customer requirement).

Example:

1. Blah blah blah

2. Blah blah blah

(a). Blah blah blah

(1). Blah blah blah

(2). Blah blah blah

In our document the (2) would look different than what the font looks like in the non-underline 2. above, even though same font and same size.

Any suggestions or thoughts on why the font changes?

Check the Character format used in the paragraph autonumber. Unless all items, except for the underline, are set to AsIs, you will get additional (unwanted) attributes creeping in.

    Thanks for your quick reply.

I checked the formats as you said to, but the font was still messed up. So changing everything to As Is did not fix the issue. HOWEVER....i did find the issue. My paragraph tag was set to one font style, but my character format (underline) was set to a different font. So when I clicked on the line with the messed up format, it showed the correct font, because of the tag, but the underlined area was still messed up.

You needed to check the Character tag format that is used in the paragraph autonumber. The best way to do this is to click outside of the text frame so that no content is selected. Open the Character Designer and then use the drop down list for the Character Tag: name to get to the tag in question. This will show what is defined for the character tag. If you have any text selected, the Character Designer will show all of the properties of the selected text plus the tag properties.
