Question

Update Book dialog does not appear

(FM12 on Win7)

When attempted to update the book, clicking the icon or using Edit > Update book, the dialog box does not appear but FM responds as if it has appeared.

  • If I click anywhere on the FM interface, the Win7 sounds tells me that I clicked in a wrong place.
  • If I press Escape, focus returns to the book.

Under Edit > Preferences > Global > Interface, all of the Pods option boxes are clear.

What next?

Sounds like the dialog box is off your screen – there’s a technique that Amber used to publish that involved using your keyboard & wiggling your mouse to get the dialog back on your main screen again, but I can’t find the post with the details.

> ... dialog box is off your screen ...

I see what appear to be dialog box coordinates in maker.ini. This might work

  1. Exit FM.
  2. Rename
    C:\Documents and Settings\{userID}\Application Data\Adobe\FrameMaker\12.0\maker.ini
    to maker_old.ini
  3. Run FM. It will probably create a new user maker.ini based on the system maker.ini.
  4. Exit FM.
  5. Port over to maker.ini any customizations from maker_old.ini.

@Error7103,

Ahh, that might explain it. Edit: Which token do I search for?

Also: The PC had been docked at the office with an external monitor as primary and the "Extend these displays" feature in Win7's Screen Resolution settings. Then I took the PC to a different dock at another office: that's where the dialog box vanished. (So much for Hibernate. )

I wonder if one set of dialog box coordinates would "always" work for this swapping back and forth among docking stations?

Best,
