Question

User guide/reference book in printed format

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can answer a question for me. Is there a physcial book that I can purchase to use as a how-to reference for FrameMaker 2020? I see the online version, yet would like one I can make notes in, etc and have it on my desk as I'm working. I am new to FrameMaker.

Thanks!

HI Kelli:

Another thought... I keep a PDF copy of each version of the FrameMaker User Guides. These files are searchable, have bookmarks and you can add notes directly to the pages.  I prefer the PDFs at this point to printed materials because I can keep them on the document cloud so they are accessible from any of my devices/computers and it much quicker to find what I am looking for. The last printed user guide I remember seeing was for version 7.

You may find all of these (and more) user guides here: https://www.daube.ch/docu/fm-documentation/FM/

That is AMAZING @K.Daube! FrameMaker info going back version 3! I thought I had about everything with my cache of old manuals on going back to version 4/5 🙂

Here you can find a link to the pdf version of the Help. I had it printed out in thre volumes at a print shop actually 🙂 Not really going to recommend that route because it comes with no index.

I've truly started considering this option. Glad to know there isn't an index before I did it though. 🙂

There are no physical books available from Adobe since FM-9... Hovever, third-party books exist: as far as I know, is this the most recent publication:

FrameMaker - Creating and publishing content: Updated for 2015 Release

ISBN 978-0996715799

The "bible" these days are Matt R. Sullivan's FM texts - see Amazon for his books.

Thank you, I was looking at the descriptions and wondered if you might be able to point me in a better direction as to which one(s) to get. I'm mainly making changes from an outside source that put together the FM file. Glitch is they may not all do it the same way, yet get the results needed. I realize it's kind of hard to tell from what I've written, but would one of the structure books or content books be better?
