Using site dictionary in FM9 part of TCS2
Hi all, I'm using TCS2, FM 9.0p250 on Windows XP.
I write for a software company and we use some specific terminology related to our platform and application, etc. As such, there are words I would like to add to the dictionary to ensure a) that we spell them consistently and b) that the spelling checker leaves them alone.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this. I found what I believe to be the site dictionary file (which I thought is what I need to edit) - the site.dct file. When I open it, there is a bunch of wierd stuff in there, like:
au-thor-ing
au-to-num-ber
au-to-num-bered
au-to-num-ber-ing
back-quote
base-line
base-lines
bit-map
bit-maps
bul-leted
car-ry-over
Why are those words hyphenated? Where did they come from?
I didn't see the name of our company in that dictionary file (even though I know I've used it in documents before). I created a blank test doc with the name of our company (spelled wrong) and a few other words, both general words spelled wrong and right, and our application-specific words. Then, I clicked Edit > Spell Check the doc. Here are my results:
1- My company name that was spelled wrong in my test file was caught by my spell-checker and asked me to fix it correctly- however, I don't see it in the site.dct file?
2-I used the word spellling in the test file (3 L's) - this is wrong. Spell checker asked me to change it to spell-ing. Huh? I don't see that word in my site.dct file either.
3- I wrote the word re-num-bered as it was spelled in my site.dct file (no idea why it's like that in the file, but moving on....) in the test doc. I corrected the word in my site.dct file to be re-numbered. When I checked my test file, spell checker checked each piece of the the word, and decided -num needed to be fixed to a bunch of gibberish -- why did it not use the site.dct file and see that I had changed the word to re-numbered?
I imagine I have things terribly mixed up-- but this is the best way I can think of (if we can make it work) to keep our writing consistent.
Any help is appreciated!
TIA,
Adriana
