Version Control System for FrameMaker workflow?

I have a customer asking for what kind of version control system might be usable for a FrameMaker workflow in either structured or unstructured?

Their main gripe seems be about managing language versions in an efficient manner. They have a lot of localized versions and have trouble managing the process and keeping overview.

It is somewhat outside of FrameMaker, but I hope somebody here have experience or suggestions? ...

    Most CCMS programs will handle both structured and unstructured FM files, and graphics, and heaven only knows what all else. They also provide version controls and audit trails and the like. Kind of like github, but specific to documents.

     

    Several of them have FrameMaker connections built in already. See here for Adobe's list of products that are already compatible:
